The Driller Killer is a 1979 slasher film directed by and starring Abel Ferrara. It is notable for being one of the first video nasties in the United Kingdom, in addition to being banned in Germany. The film is in public domain. Incidentally the director and star claims that one half of the film was shot in 1977, while the other half was filmed in 1978, thus explaining a lack of continuity and costume design (as well as makeup).
An artist slowly loses his mind as he and his two female friends scrape to pay the bills. The punk band downstairs increasingly agitates him, his art dealer is demanding that he complete his big canvas painting as promised, and he gets into fights with his girlfriends. When the dealer laughs at his canvas he snaps, and begins taking it out on the people responsible for his pain and random transients in the manner suggested by the title.Uncut Version.
Cultural references:
- The early British punk band The Damned reference the film in their song "Nasty," itself an ode to various "video nasties".
- Swedish Crust punk band Driller Killer took their name from the movie.
- Danish Psychobilly band Nekromantix, UK hardcore punk band Disorder, and US death metal band Mortician all wrote songs inspired by the film, all entitled "Driller Killer". The latter also included a sample from the film in their song.
This film is in public domain. The public domain is a range of abstract materials—commonly referred to as intellectual property—which are not owned or controlled by anyone. The term indicates that these materials are therefore "public property", and available for anyone to use for any purpose.

gue sempet nguap nih nonton film ini. ngga tau deh, abel ferrara kekurangan hormon horror kali yah. kalo pengen jadi film drama sih, film ini udah berhasil sebenernya. ngingetin ama taxi driver. meskipun shot-shot tipikal urban portraitnya itu asli ngeboringin banget. formulasi plot-line ama karakter tokoh2nya itu juga kurang catchy kalo mau jadi slasher. ngebunuhin orang dan jadi gila karena masalah finansial? anjis...slasher fans kayaknya males bener denger yg gituan ya.
tapi mungkin yg bikin film ini wajib tonton nggak laen karena abel ferrara berani bikin film "jelek" dengan pemaen2 berakting payah dan semuanya terlihat murahan untuk ukuran sutradara yg juga ngebikin film macem Bad Lieutenant. ngeliat adegan2 eksploitasi yg ditumplekin di film bernuansa ala arthouse nggak pernah jadi ide buruk buat gue.
dan tentu aja adegan lesbian shower itu!
